Common Questions and Answers

Why do I need puppy school?

A well-trained dog means a harmonious household and a more relaxed, happy family. When your dog understands basic commands and boundaries, he or she is able to understand their role within your home and be happy.

Puppy school sessions are essential for safety and good manners when out and about, so you and your dog can enjoy walks without feeling stressed or anxious.

At what age should my puppy start school?

From 9-16 weeks of age . Don’t wait or hesitate, the younger your puppy is at the start, generally means a more adaptive , well socialised and trained pup.

If you have left it too late, don’t worry! Behavioural training sessions are also available from The Dog Sessions.

My dog is the WORST! Can you help me?

As a behavioural specialist, Caroline Depledge has worked with many dogs of all sizes, teaching them to respond to commands, relax when home alone and act appropriately around other animals.

Talk to Caroline to see how she can help you both to have a happier and less stressful relationship with your pet.

Do we have to do homework?

Homework is definitely recommended between training sessions so you can reinforce what your dog has learned and he or she can master the right skills more quickly.

Practice makes perfect!

If you have children, remember to get them involved, to encourage good behaviour and consistency at home.

Can my young son or daughter join us at Puppy School?

Yes, you can bring two people per puppy. However, it is recommended that your child be at least 7 years old before attending Puppy School with The Dog Sessions

Who will walk my dog?

The Dog Sessions has a team of experienced dog walkers who work across Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Your dog will get to know a regular friendly face so they feel confident and comfortable on their outing.

Where will my dog be walked?

Our walks last from 30 to 60 minutes and take your dog along local streets and to a safe off-leash area . Regular walking spots include Centennial Park , Yarranabbe Park and Raleigh Reserve.

What if my dog doesn't like walking with other dogs?

We can organise some training sessions to get your dog more familiar with other pets, or you can book a solo walking session.

My dog is too old to be walked but needs to be checked on during the day

A dog-lover from The Dog Sessions can visit your dog at home. Please call us on 0411 494 346 to discuss.

I am unwell but I do not need a long term dog walker

That’s fine. The Dog Sessions does not require a lock-in contract so you can use us when you need us on a casual basis.

What vaccinations does my dog require for training or walking?

A minimum of one vaccination is required for puppy school as it is inside in a safe location with only puppies present.

For group walks, your dog requires a full vaccination schedule or should be Titer tested. Contact us to find out more.
